Inspired by Sweaty Betty’s ethos of creating a truly holistic world beyond fitness, that empowers women and brings whole communities together – the concept for this project was: ‘Wrap Around’. With this in mind, I took a lot of inspiration from modern tribal and social gatherings, in particular referencing the idolised figurative forms and formulaic layout of the Burning Man festival. The circular formation we see at Burning Man is repeated in many modern buildings of worship today, one in particular formed the keystone to my design: The Bahá’í Temple of worship in Chile. The building displays a repetition of nine wings that wrap around the structure like protective, cupped hands. Inspired by Porta Romana’s 2016 collection titled Cosmos and the timeless trend and fascination for deep space and the constellations above us in the night sky, Melinda and Jeremy’s formal reception room encapsulates a revival of this collection – bespoke to their needs. The essence of the concept was to achieve a design that evokes the feeling of being immersed in deep space. Where “metallic veins of gold meander creating glimmers of preciousness” in a room that is “unpredictably wild but always exciting”. The flowing lines and simple shapes of key Porta Romana pieces in French brass and cosmic gold will glow against the deep blues and reds of space.
